Happy New Year! As students come back from their winter break a great seasonal activity for them to do is to write their new years resolutions. This is a great opportunity to help student learn how to make and reach their goals. As a new years present for everyone I've created a New Years Resolution worksheet.
For this activity, students will:
1. Choose a goal.
2. Make sure that their goal is achievable.
3. Plan how to achieve their goal.
4. Determine what their motivation is for completing their goal.
5. and set a time that they will finish the goal by.

I've got a new Penguin's sight word reader. The penguins sight word readers are to go along with Penguins Sight Words file folder game.
This game helps student practice the following capitalization rules:
Beginning of the sentence
Days of the week
There are 15 pages of sentences cards in this download. There are also pages of blank cards so you can write your own sentences. The element that I love most about this game is that students can check for themselves if they were right without the teachers help.
How to play the game
1. Divide students into two teams.
2. Teams alternate taking cards.
3. When the card is draw the student needs to:
a. Read the sentence aloud.
b. Tell whether the sentence is correct or incorrect.
c. Remove the paper clip and tell whether s/he was right.
4. If the student is correct the team keeps the card, if its incorrect they place it in the discard pile.
5. When a chomp card is drawn the team that drew the card loses 3 cards.
The team with the most cards at the end of the game wins.

This new version of the snowman snowball fight lets students practice their addition and subtraction facts with the sum/difference being between 0-6. This will be the last of the snowman sports file-folder games. I'm going to be working on another series of sight word file-folder games next.
