Greek and Latin Roots - Go Fish
Greek and Latin Roots are everywhere in the English language. As students move into the upper grades they come across more and more academic words that are unfamiliar to them. Knowing Greek and Latin roots will help them to know the meaning behind these words.
I've put together a fun game that students can play to become more familiar with these roots. Greek and Latin Roots Go Fish. The cards are separated into two decks a Greek deck and a Latin Deck. Each deck also comes with a reference sheet that students can use when playing the game. You can see an example of the sheet to the left.

Little Blue Men from Outer Space
Covers 24 Prefixes and Suffixes
Little Blue Men from outer space are coming to earth and they are trying to learn our language. They already know some prefixes and suffixes and have sent out scouts to find root words.
Students will need to match prefixes to a root word to make a longer word. Also provided in this download are 2 different recording sheets so students can keep tract of the words they've created and you can assess their learning. |

Word Investigation - Morpheme Analysis
I've just finished a new e-book called Word Investigation. This book is full of graphic organizers that you can use to analysis morphemes in words. Doing this activity will help your students to recognize patterns in words, which in turn will help them to build their vocabularies, become better spellers and decode big words.

Affix Trees
This is a great idea that I found on the Dandelions and Dragonflies blog. She has a template for the trunk that you can download and use. The idea is pretty simple, each trunk has either a root, suffix, or prefix on it and the leaves are all the words that you can make with those roots/affixes.
