I had been hearing about this book for some time and I finally got the chance to read it.  This is one of those books that you just don't want to put down.  I started it around 4:00 in the afternoon and finished it around 3:00 in the morning.  : )

For those who haven't read the book the plot is as follows -

Katniss a teenage girl from a postapocalyptic Appalachia takes the place of her younger sister in a brutal competition.  24 teenagers ages 12-18 are placed in a televised reality show where the last one still alive wins.

Throughout the book you grow to despise those who create and enjoy the Hunger Games.  The book is distrubing on many levels but at the end of reading the book I had one primary question.  Do people like reading the Hunger Games, myself included, for the same reasons that people in the book liked watching them?

If you have an opinion or just liked the book yourselve please leave a comment below.

The next snowman winter sports file-folder game is out.  Snowman Hockey  -  In this file folder game players get to practice their addition facts while competing in a snowman hockey game.

How to play the game - To play the game students will take a card, solve the problem on the card and then say their answer.  The cards will either have a hocky puck or an X on them.  If a student chooses a card with a hockey puck they will try to find the sum on their side of the board.  If they choose a card with an X on it they will try to block one of their opponents snowman.  Students will keep on taking turns until the all of the snowman are covered.  The player who has the most hockey pucks at the end of the game wins.

To download your free file-folder game click on the link below.  The game will be available for free until Black Friday.  Also, make sure you come back on Black Friday.  I will be having a 20% sale on my Teachers-pay-Teachers store.

With Thanksgiving a week away and the first snowfall on the ground, I decided to release the first in a series of snowman file-folder games.  These file-folder games will all focus on teaching early math skills.  They will also feature snowman participating in different winter sports.
Skiing snowman math games
Skiing snowman file-folder game
The first winter sport I decided to have these snowman play is skiing.  In this game students practice their multiplication or addition math facts.

Each child gets to choose a specific number to work on.  When they've choosen their number/snowman they get to have the snowman ski down the hill while adding or multipling the numbers on the way.

Students can choose to go down the bunny hills or challenge themselves by going down one of the paths on Dizzy Head Hill.

So instead of dreading winter and complaining about the snow,  celebrate the season with a new set of freebies by Kaylee's Education Studio.

To download your free copy of the file-folder game, click on the link below.  Note:  This game will only be available as a free download for two days.   After Monday the game will only be available for purchase.  The time for the free give-away is over.  Subscribe to the RSS feed to get all of the freebies that come out on Kaylee's Education Studio.

The free give away of the two file-folder games, butterfly-colors and spin for the stars has ended.  In a few days they will be able to purchase.  Along with these two games there will also be included a brand new learning colors file-folder game.  Where students get to practice their colors with bright colorful fish.  This new game has taken me longer than anticpated but its turning out great.  Check back or subscribe to this education blog by clicking on the RSS button to the right.

Learning colors file-folder game
Learning colors file-folder game
This is the second game that I've created for helping students learn all of their color words.  In this game students spin the wheel and move to the color of the word that they land on.  The colors that are covered in this game are: green, purple, black, red, blue, orange, yellow, pink, and brown.

When students get to the star they win.  There are enough pieces in the game for 5 students to play at once.
