Ben loves going to the jazz club and sits outside listening to music. He loves jazz music so much he goes around playing an imaginary trumpet. When he does this in front of his friends they laugh and tease him. But there is one person who doesn't tease or laugh at him, the trumpeter from the band. At the end of the story Ben gets to live his dream and learn to play the trumpet. This book is a great introduction for kids into the world of Jazz. Keep dreaming Ben! Check out the full review of Pinduli. My first thought when picking up this book was, I guess its going to be a cute dog story. But no, think again. Its a hyena. A hyena as a main character? But, it works. In this story it definitely works. Pinduli is a young hyena who wanders off away from her mother. She is found by a pack of wild dogs who start to tease her about her looks. And for the first time ever Pinduli is concerned that she is ugly. Pinduli meets a lion, and some zebras as well. Each time Pinduli tries to change her appearance so she'll be accepted. I'm not going to tell you the end so hopefully I've said enough to get you interested in reading the story. The expressions on the faces of the animals in this story are memorable. I especially like the page where the lion is trying to cover his eyes. Overall, a great book. I would easily give it five stars. Did you ever have a toy you loved so much you just wanted to share it with
your friends? Well, in this story that's exactly what happened. Except, once Piggie let Elephant play with his toy Elephant broke it. Can Elephant and Piggies friendship survive? Mo Williams has written 36 children's books (That I know of) He has one 3 Caldecott awards, 2 Geisel medals, and numerous other awards. His books have helped young readers love to read. Book Review I've created another SquidLit Lens. This one on the picture book Duck on a Bike by David Shannon. Here is my review of the book. Review In this particularly charming tale, Duck gets a wild idea. "I bet I could ride a bike!," and he does. He rides past a variety of farm animals who say that the duck is silly for riding a bike but secretly want to try it themselves. The full page illustrations are bright and detailed and are one of the books most attracting features. When I worked at a daycare a whole room of two years olds sat through the entire story mesmerized. Its a must read for any preschooler. Don't forget to read the last page.
