Little Blue Men are coming to earth and are trying to learn English. They already learned some prefixes and they've sent out scouts to collect words. Your students job is to match root words to a prefixes, then record their observations on a recording sheet. (Note: I'm using root word here to mean any word that a prefix can be added to, not the smallest unit of meaning. I'm doing this to have students focus on the prefix and its meaning.)

This game helps student practice the following capitalization rules: Beginning of the sentence Names Days of the week Months Place names Inside quotations There are 15 pages of sentences cards in this download. There are also pages of blank cards so you can write your own sentences. The element that I love most about this game is that students can check for themselves if they were right without the teachers help. How to play the game 1. Divide students into two teams. 2. Teams alternate taking cards. 3. When the card is draw the student needs to: a. Read the sentence aloud. b. Tell whether the sentence is correct or incorrect. c. Remove the paper clip and tell whether s/he was right. 4. If the student is correct the team keeps the card, if its incorrect they place it in the discard pile. 5. When a chomp card is drawn the team that drew the card loses 3 cards. The team with the most cards at the end of the game wins. As always for the first few days of its release the game will be available for free. I do this to reward those who follow by blog. You can also like me on facebook to receive updates on new freebies.
Wow! That took a lot longer than I thought it would, but it's finally done. It's up for sale at the Kaylee's Educational Studio Store on Teachers pay Teachers. Or you can buy it through this site for a discount. As soon as I've finished writing this blog post, I'll start creating the page that fully describes the unit and a place to buy it. If you can't wait that long you can purchase it now by clicking on the link below.
Learning Contractions I've finished creating the template for the color hot dog contraction printable. And here is what the finished version of the dog will look like. You can laminate the dog and use it to teach many different contractions. When you open up the dog you will be able to see the missing letters. Use to teach contractions This will be able to download as a part of my contraction unit. My next step? I need to create a lesson on contractions using the hot dog model. This hotdog contraction craft is going to be included in my contractions unit. I've made it available for a limited time free, you can download it by clicking on the link below. The idea for this craft is that you'll write the contraction on the dog, and the missing letters on the strip. You glue the strip to the dog and when you open the dog further you see the long form of the contraction. I'm going to have a larger color version of this craft available as well. The color one can be laminated and used over and over again. It can also be used as a guide for students so they understand what their complete dog will look like. After students have completed the craft they can be used to create a bullitin board, or gathered toghether to make a classroom contraction book. Please leave a comment letting me know how the craft turned out!
I've got a new free item ready to download on the Free Stuff Page. It's a poster to use when your teaching contractions. This poster is going to be a part of unit I'm creating on teaching contractions. Included in the unit are going to be crafts, bullitin board ideas, worksheets, activities, games, and of course this new poster. I'm still trying to decide what image to put in the left hand corner of the page. If you have any ideas let me know. |
