Well, its been a long year but today's the last day of school in my school district. I'm looking forward to a nice summer. So it's probably too late for you to use these in your classroom this year, but for all of the parents out their who want to keep their kids busy reading this summer I've created two new reading charts. You can have them color in a square for each book or each chapter they read, and then have a decided on award for them when they finish.
And here is something that I created last year. It's a summer reading wish list. It's a great way to have your kids plan out what they want to read over the summer.
So the project that I was going to be working on next, after the 120 puzzles that I just created, was going to be a set to 120 chart worksheets. I'm sure you know the feeling however of starting on a new project and then halfway through having no motivation to finish it.
So I'm setting aside the worksheet packet for awhile and I started a new products that I'm really excited about.
So here it is my collection of word family houses. There are 60 word family houses in all so you can mix and match which word families you want to teach to you students.
Each of the houses has an illustration of one of the words that are in that word family. So for the word family "-ed" there is a picture of a bed. There are lines on the side of each house for collecting new words in that word family.
As many of you already know that when I release one of my new products I let it be available for free for the first few days to reward those of you who follow the blog. You can download the worksheets on my new word family houses page. They will be available for free until Saturday, the 23rd of March. After that they will be $4.50.
The pre-primer ghosts vs. vampires is now up for sale. For those of you who liked the game I now have a primer, first grade and second version of the game. All of these versions will be available for free until Wednesday.
Here's a new sight word file folder game just in time for Halloween. Ghosts vs. Vampires. Ghosts and vampires fight to see who is the scariest monster.
Dolch second grade sight word worksheets are here. These worksheets are a little more challenging then the ones for first grade and kindergarten. Students can color and write the words but they can also practice spelling them by covering and spelling the word, picking the correct spelling, and hunting for the word in a string of letters.
The spy pigs sight word game is finally complete. In this game you give students one Spy-pig to decorate. Tell students that there are 5 different types of items that they can use to disguise their spy pig: Shirts, pants, sunglasses, hats, or other accessory.
Each of these categories has 20 sight words that students have to learn. So if a student can correctly read all 20 sight words within a minute they can choose something for their spy pig to wear.
If they wish to change what there spy pig is wearing they have to again demonstrate their mastery of the word list.
Or you can have them play this version as a way to practice sight words in a reading center:
Students take turns drawing a card. When they read the word correctly they get to keep the card. If they get three of the same kind (i.e. if they get three cards with sunglasses on them) they can choose something to put on their spy pig. They can also place something on their spy pig when they draw a Choose a ______, card.
In this type of game, you don't need to have students compete to win, they can just play to show off their style and creativity.
This game will be available for free until Friday when it will become available for purchase. The payed for version will also have black and white pages that your students will be able to color in themselves. (Plus you won't have to use all of your colored ink.)
The version of this game contains the words from Fry's sight word list 201-300. Other versions of this game including ones for the Dolch word lists will be coming out shortly.
The free give away of this game is now over. You can purchase this game for Fry's Word List 1-100, 101-200, 201-300, or 301-400 on my new Spy Pigs page. Each game is only $1.50.

If your school district uses the Dolch word list instead and you want some sight word worksheets made up of the Dolch word list simply request a product and I'll make you some.
In these worksheets students will get to trace, write, color, search for and circle, and cut and paste the word that they are studying. The file will only be available for free until tomorrow so come and get your quick.
