My first thought when picking up this book was, I guess its going to be a cute
dog story. But no, think again. Its a hyena. A hyena as a main character? But,
it works. In this story it definitely works.
Pinduli is a young hyena who
wanders off away from her mother. She is found by a pack of wild dogs who start
to tease her about her looks. And for the first time ever Pinduli is concerned
that she is ugly. Pinduli meets a lion, and some zebras as well. Each time
Pinduli tries to change her appearance so she'll be accepted. I'm not going to
tell you the end so hopefully I've said enough to get you interested in reading
the story.
The expressions on the faces of the animals in this story are
memorable. I especially like the page where the lion is trying to cover his
eyes.
Overall, a great book. I would easily give it five stars.
