Coloring by numbers is a common activity for Kindergarten and first grade. Here is a chance to use the concept to have students practice finding equivalent fractions. Students will need to color the picture by figuring out what the fraction is equivalent to. This is the first of four of these coloring pages that I'm going to have available for free on this site. A great way to extend this activity is to have students list all of the equivalent fractions that are used in the color by fractions page by what they are equivalent to. For example, for 1/5 students can write: 2/10, 3/15, 4/20

Printables and Worksheets to go with the book Fractions, Decimals, and Percents by David A. Adler6/22/2012 While working with the two girls that I'm tutoring over the summer I needed to review fractions with them. So off I went to look for a book to help me teach them the concept of fractions and here is the great book that I found. This book presents the relationship between Fractions, Decimals, and Percents in clear, real world examples that are easy to understand. The book gives some problems for students to work out themselves but I wanted to use a few more so I've created a small workbook to go along with the book. Its 25 pages long and gives your students a lot of practice in changing fractions into decimals or percents, and the other way around. And of course for being an early bird to the blog by subscribing via the RSS, facebook, or Pinterest you can get it for free. Just click on the link at the bottom of the page. If you would like to get the book yourself you can click on the picture below and it will direct you to the book on Amazon. There are a total of 8 worksheets in this download and one two player game. Students will be able to practice recognizing when fractions, decimals or percents mean the same thing, place value, finding what an item costs when it is on sale, and converting fractions, decimals and percents.
I've finished a new webquest where students can learn all about aquatic biomes. I've also created a webquest guide that you can download by clicking on the file below. To see start the webquest click on the picture.
So over the summer I am going to be tutoring 2 girls going into 5th and 7th grade. Since I'm only going to be meeting with them once a week I decided that to maximize my time with them I would, of course, give them extra work to do after I've gone. However it is summer time and I wanted the assignments to be fun! One of the activities that I'm going to assign to them is web quests. I've created my first one all about dolphins and have made a worksheet to go along with the quest. You can see and use the quest yourself by clicking on the title or picture below. The guide is the pdf file.
Here is a new limited time freebie, Sight Word Zoo. This is a card game that allows your classroom to practice their sight words. To play the game kids take turns drawing cards. If they draw a sight word they must say the word. If they draw an animal card everyone starts to act like that animal until the teacher says, "Zoo keeper." When this is said everyone must freeze until the teacher says back to your cages, when everyone come quietly back to the carpet. This is a massive download with 10 decks, plus a blank one, that cover the first 300 words on Fry's Sight Word List. This is a perfect game to make sight word flash cards fun! For other great ideas on teaching and learning sight words visit my sight words page which not only has my ideas but features other great ideas from around the teaching blog world. This game will be available for free until next Monday so congratulations to everyone who got here early. The limited time freebie is over. You can now purchase this game for $1.50 on the new websites shop. Here is an idea to help make practicing sight words more enjoyable for your students. Have them write them in a rainbow. Each letter in the sight word is written with a different color so that the colors make up the color of the rainbow. For more ideas on teaching sight words visit my sight words page. You can download the rainbow below.
