Chapter 6 - Cutting the Teacher Strings is what I call the meat of the book. It's full of ideas and activities to go beyond the traditional and often restrictive practices of teaching reading. Here is one of the great ideas that I've taken away from this Chapter.
Book Commercials - Instead of a traditional book report have students promote their books using short comments about why others in the class should read their book. The great thing about this is instead of the book report which automatically will demotivate anyone from reading the purpose behind them is to get the class excited about what they are reading. I so want to do this with my students.
